2012 Europe Trip, weeks 5-8, original notes moved to blog (no spelling/grammar check!!)

Week 5 journal notes

Wednesday 23/05/12
This morning we went to sineu market, we stopped and had a coffee in the sunshine and headed off in our separate directions. We took Ellie to the park and had a mooch further into the market this time. It has a nice buzz there. John and Maureen were going to head around the island for some site-seeing but they headed home and we had a quiet coupleof hours by the pool while Ellie had a sleep.

In the afternoon, we took John and Maureen to alcudia, Ellie had a play in the sea, digging holes, destroying sandcastles and getting spun around by daddy in the sea. She loved it, myself and Maureen watched them all playing and I got some lovely photos. After, we went to get some dinner at the beach bar, which was a lovely way to end the day.

Thursday 24/05/12
Another sunny day today in llubi when we woke up. John and Maureen decided to go for a drive through the mountains to pollenca via inca market. John walked up 365 steps in pollenca (400 and something John counted) to get to the Calvary church, he had a "cappuccino" with spray cream at the top!

We had a visit to "the nana shop" as Ellie calls it, Ellie was perfectly behaved there today, which is unusual, but welcomed! We all got in the pool later in the afternoon, John very cleverly jumped with his hearing aids in and ALL of us are hoping they dry out and fix over night!

For dinner, jim cooked us a Spanish fish bake which was delicious, only to be interrupted by two ants nests showing themselves halfway through the meal... Caroline and Tom (with Caroline's shiny new passport) are coming tomorrow which we're all looking forward to.

Friday 25/05/12
Today Tom and Caroline arrived, and what a great day, in true palmer fashion they drove down the drive in their rental Audi with 12 litres of lager, 4 bottles of cava and 4 bags of crisps, what a start to the weekend! We had seen their plane fly over and yet again, estimated our walk down the drive perfectly to the time they pulled in!

For the rest of the day we practised serves, hung around the pool, dipped toes, Ellie and the boys jumped right on in and we kick started the cava followed by a fantastic bar b q and variety of salads again cooked by jim the hero, predictably, we all went to bed a bit later than usual!

Saturday 26/05/12
This morning, Tom and caz went to cap formentor and around to pollença, while John and Maureen went to alcudia town and port. Everyone met back at the ranch mid afternoon and after a quick dip to cool everyone down all 7 of us squeezed into Maxine and headed to palma.

We had a lovely walk around the outside of the cathedral and on into town in a direction we've never been before so it made a nice change. We stopped for refreshments at the only bar in Palma that didn't have a menu to get Ellie some dinner, so again, we filled the kid full of crisps and made our way along the harbour to look at the boats. We found a nice tapas restaurant on a square where you pay €10 for 8 small tapas plates, so we had three between us and a few drinks. Ellie loved dipping in and out of the various meals and all of the bread, we then headed for ice creams, a quick look at the cathedral looking magnificent lit up in the night and then off home to watch the uk get their asses quicked in Eurovision (we missed all the acts, just the scoring!)

Sunday 27/05/12

This morning, the various groups organised themselves and headed off in the direction of arta and then on towards the beaches on the east coast, while we stayed around the house, did a bit of swimming, a bit of sunbathing and a bit of reading, it was nice not to have to rush in and out. In the evening, we took everyone to the hill we stayed on the first time we stayed in a villa here as there is a beautiful restaurant at the top which over looks a lot of the island and serves fantastic meat and veg essentially, we had a really lovely evening, Ellie tucked into chicken and yet more chips, myself and jim had roast pork, can and Tom had kid and Maureen and John had suckling pig, all enjoyed their meals and drinks.

Monday 28/05/12
Today was caz and tom's last morning so we all sat around for the morning and had some coffee, juice and croissants and then headed to the pool for a bit of a rest and some games in the pool - well, Ellie Tom and jim having a play while we all looked on. The traveling machine that is the palmers with 15 minutes before the planned departure, moved from the pool, showered, washed hair and were making their way down the drive, back to club class and suburbia fun for them!

John and Maureen went into Palma to have a look around the cathedral inside and Ellie had a mega three hour sleep, once we finally dragged her out of bed we headed to alcudia to the beach, we thought we'd try a different part to try and get a bit closer to home and a bit of natural shade but the area we stopped at was covered in sea weed so we got back in the car and headed to the usual spot which I think we now agree on is the best we can find locally. We only spent a short amount of time there today and headed back to meet grangan and grandma ready for the meal jim was cooking us, poor Ellie was looking for Tom as soon as we turned into the drive, she's gutted they've gone.

After a disastrous shower where Ellie pulled the shower curtain down on us I put Ellie to bed and her cot broke! Luckily John was able to get it fixed and after some disagreement from Ellie, she went to bed ( in her cot). We had our meal amongst the sheep and various birds, a fly catcher and a yet to be identified. It's very similar to a black cap apparently. The sheep loved our melon rind after pudding!

Tuesday 29/05/12
We all went off together today to drive to valdemossa and then through the tramontana mountain range.

Valdemossa is a stunning place to visit, there's not much there just nice roads to walk around, lots of shops and patisseries and small cafes. Michael Douglas and Catherine z j have a place there and have sponsored some culture stuff..! Clearly it rubbed off on me!

We then headed to Cala Deia, a lovely little beach along the road, we all had lunch at a restaurant right overlooking the beach, watching the comings and goings, there were a couple of huge yachts anchored up in the bay and their owners being taken ashore in motorised dingies, which we think had a jet ski engine underneath as we couldn't see an engine as such. After lunch, John and jim took Ellie in the sea and she loved it, it had a small amount of sea weed, but the sea was really very clear and had large boulders, it was great there, if it wasn't so hard to drive there, I think we'd be there regularly.

We drove back via the reservoirs, Lluc, inca and then home. I drove from Cala deia onwards and it was exhausting work! We had a nice bar b q again with some nice red wine (which we knew would be good as john's bought it from majestics) and fed the sheep melon again. Great day had by all (if we don't mention shoes in the pool)

Week six
Wednesday 30/05/12
Today, John and Maureen had a look around the touristy areas west of Palma and I think was quite an eye opener!

We headed to manacor which is the second largest town after Palma. We have since named it manabore as there wasn't much to it. It seemed to have a large oriental presence so we were able to go to a Chinese supermarket but that was as excited as we got!

On the evening, we all headed to sineu to the German restaurant for steaks, I had duly warned John and Maureen about mark's habit of getting people drunk, they fended him off as much as they could, but after we finished the meal, there was herbas liquors and coffee with rum applied but I think the warning helped a little! We had a great night, including Ellie who had a very late night.

Thursday 31/05/12
John and Maureen headed off at 8 this morning and it's been very strange around the house today, funny how you can get so used to people being around.

We decided to head to inca to the market, jim had not been into the town area and was really surprised at how big it was. The market was great, nice to bumble around. We spotted a couple of nice looking restaurants also so they've been logged.

We couldn't get Ellie down for her lunch time nap so we spent a lot of time around the pool again, it's got very hot again, over 30 so we're always trying to entertain her out of direct sun shine.

We managed to get some vegetables into Ellie via soup tonight for her tea so that's made us feel pretty good!

Friday 01/06/12
This morning we thought we'd try and do a day at Formentor beach, so naturally I forgot to pack snacks and off we headed. We set up on the beach with Ellie's new beach tent and had a really lovely day in and out of the sea and little walks up and down. Jim went and bought us sandwiches and a can tosh are for lunch a d it cost €18!!! While we were there, she sang the WHOLE of "round and round the garden!" I couldn't believe it! We had hoped that she'd fall asleep for a while in the tent and we could just chill and think about our books that we'd forgotten but it didn't happen. Ellie loved playing I the sea but likes to test the danger, she'd keep wanting to wonder out deep or to "fall" and try to keep her head out of water, I think her froggy armbands are giving her too much confidence!

Ellie slept all the way back from the beach, it was so hot at our when we did get back that we hid inside until 5:30 ish then went for a Swim in the pool. As we were getting out , she threw her armbands in as always but this time started to go back in the pool. We watched her closely to see how far she'd push herself, when we first got here she'd happily walk up and down the steps and never get out of her depth, but now she'll just keep walking until she's right under, it seems! Going to have to get her swimming without armbands ASAP! For dinner jim made us delicious kebab style chicken with salad and pita and we watch bad boys with kebabs and beer, brill! Just clicked earlier that Ellie has two nappies left, so I guess I know what we're up to as soon as we get up tomorrow...

Saturday 02/06/12

Big day for us, we thought we may have found a bigger, better supermarket closer to us in muro - we went and there isn't, excitement over!  After feeding Ellie Chinese supermarket pot noodle for lunch (!) she went off to bed and we went into the oven that is outside at the moment during this heat wave, 33 dc at one point!

We did a bit of read of our books, I actually finished mine and have gotten through five now and can't bring myself to read one of the ones that was already there about a group of girls who go on holiday to Devon in the fifties and find romance, not for me! So am stuck now, think I will have to purchase a kindle, send it to Boo's and she can bring out for me. So we did some swimming and cooled down a bit.

For tea, once lazy bones woke up over 3 hours later, we drive on into Palma for a walk around and dinner, we had a lovely time, Ellie was well behaved during diner and we had a lovely evening, although, another late night for the girl...

It's been so hot over nit she is now just in a nappy and sheet for the night, fingers crossed she'll be comfortable.

 Sunday 03/06/12

Today was they day we had been waiting for and the clouds came! Phew! A little cooler! After a falling out with Ellie at lunch and a stint on the naughty step, we watched Ellie, dumbfounded, whilst she gave baby a damn good rollicking for upsetting peow peow! She was pointing at baby saying "no baby, listen me!" and "say sorry baby, naughty step baby" it was so funny and completely undermined everything we're trying to teach our every increasingly "cheeky" daughter.

I watched some of the jubilee pageant in BBC world (which I'm totally over now by the way, it's the only channel we have) and so decided I needed to do something jubbly so once Ellie was up from her nap I announced we should go to magaluf and have a drink in an English pub and see if we can find any celebrations. We chickened out and just went up to  port d'alcudia, where wedidn't find an English pub, or a jubilee party :( never mind, still a couple of days left. We went home and had a delicious curry jim started cooking at breakfast, sort of British!

I downloaded my first book onto my kindle app tonight for me to try and read, it drains the battery and idon't think it will be any good outside. I think. When we're at home it will be really useful, but may have to weaken and buy a kindle as I'm getting through about a book a week so surely I'll get my money's worth....?

Monday 4/06/12
We went for a picnic today! I got the cool box ready with just some drinks and a babybel for ellie, thinking we'll do a shop, get some sandwiches, pastries, fruit and have a lovely time on the puig de Santa margalida where we ate the other night as they have a nice picnic are. On the way to inca, we talked ourselves out of doing a big shop tonight thinking we could eat at the beach tonight, we're taking addy and John out tomorrow night for their wedding present so really, we needed very little and we'll get it later. So I drove thought inca town centre and parked very dodgily whilst jim ran into the pastry shop, after many death stares, jim came back and we headed up the hill. Sandwiches came out and there was a slice of tortilla, a ham salad roll and a tortilla roll. We looked at our tiny picnic we were about to share and realised, yet again, we must start planning our trips better... We walked up the hill a little and looked at the view, it's beautiful up there.

During Ellie's nap I tested the iPad kindle outside, I can cope with it but not ideal, am 43% through the book already according to it so I won't have to put up with it for long.

When she got up, we went up to alcudia. It was very, very windy so we didn't stay on the beach for long and decided not to got to the usual place for tea as it would be too cold so we went inland to nod of the bars near where we park. We ummed (oh, just thought, Ellie has started saying "umm" about three times every time you ask her a question!) and ahhed over whether to spend €18 on an entrecôte and decided to go cheap and sensible and had carbonara, Ellie had spag Bol and jim had pizza, ours were rubbish, I think my mean was cream, nutmeg, pasta and a little bit of bacon and mushrooms. Jim didn't think much of his either, however, Ellie, literally shovelled her food in with her spoon and when she couldn't get it I quickly enough, with her hands. Jim and I sat there with our jaws on the floor watching her finish the lot then shout "chips!" two things learned from that meal, if you don't know the restaurant and it doesn't strike you as somewhere worth spending €18 on a steak, it probably should be avoided and two, we need to refine Ellie's taste buds and table manners. The number of restaurants we walk past thinking "ooh that looks nice but better not" is heartbreaking.

As we were trying to talk Ellie into bed, jim inadvertently sat on blue baby (a newby) and Ellie put him on the naughty step, he had to say and sign "sorry" and give baby a kiss and a cuddle before he was allowed off the step!

Tuesday 06/06/12
We went to Cala tortes today, a nice beach off the beaten track (literally) about forty minutes away, jim made pasta in individual pots each for lunch and there we were, organised and at a beach. There was no shade there though and our tent, no matter which direction you out it in, wouldn't stay upright, so one of us needed to stay in it. It was a lovely day but felt like hard work. I ynk my favourite beach is Cala Formentor currently

For dinner, we were asking Addy and John out for a meal for their wedding present. We collected them so they could both have a drink for once and headed to restaurants Santa Magdalena on top of the hill for a great meal. We got up there and the doors were closed, they close Mondays and Tuesday's!! Grrrr... So at least they've seen it and hopefully we can take them before we leave. So instead we took them into sineu to a restaurant none of us have tried but jim has seen it rated well in trip advisor. Ellie was so well behaved considering her food didn't arrive until 9:20! Poor child! Jim and I had t bone steaks and they were delicious, the food was well worth a trip but the grumpy old git who served us wasn't!! Also, there was a real nuisance of a cat, which as the meal went on, jim only admired more for it's stubbornness and refusal to be scared away when poked on the nose!

It's now midnight and Ellie has been in bed only half an hour, poor girl, we'll take it easy on her tomorrow.

Last day of jubilee and we found no parties, closest we got to celebrating Britain was jim's delicious curry he made sunday.... Oh well, I have to think of what I've gained.. Early retirement and a slightly extended holiday!

Week seven journal notes

Wednesday 07/07/12

Very hot again today, jim thinks that the forecast is always 3-5 degrees cooler than in is in llubi, maybe, because the forecasts are based at the coast and you do feel the diffence when you get there.

Ellie and I were just getting in the pool and a car drove down the drive, even thought he gates were closed. Jim up to see what was happening and it was miguel, the owner's father, letting us know there was a diesel delivery coming in ten minutes for the generator and he'd over see it. Once done, we weren't to put the generator on for at least an hour as the sediment may need to settle in the tank. Just as they were going, jim walked in with a confused look on his face, I looked over at Ellie, and for the first time in about four weeks since we taped it up with duct tape, Ellie lifted the generator override button flap and pressed the button! So if anyone asks, we thought he said, PUT the generator on within the hour!

We headed over to a sports shop this afternoon to get jim new running shorts and went around the hypermarket / supermarket Alcampo on the same shopping area and got a shop in, I nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw johnsons baby wipes - Ellie's in for a treat!

Came back home for 6:30 and the car thermometer was still reading 31, so we had a swim for medicinal purposes!

Thursday 08/06/12
Today sucked, it was really, really hot - mid thirties, so myself and jim hid under a tree while Ellie was asleep reading books.

We went tithe beach, all of us in a fowl mood as we were over heated . However, once we got there, the breeze made it much more bearable.

On the way back we had a text from Craig saying Charlotte had gone into hospital with her back and he'd call and let us know what was going on later. I skyped dad who said he wasn't too sure as mum had literally waited for him to park the car in the garage, chucked her bags in and driven off up to Malvern. I saw a few bits and bobs on Facebook so that kept us a bit up to date, then Charlotte text explaining something in her back had gone when opening the duck shed and they had to call an ambulance, her back felt awful but the main thing was her legs were fully functioning, she has to stay in over night for an MRI scan.

The heat at 10pm is not dropping, I think tonight is going to be the hottest night in the world ever on record.

Friday 09/06/12

We all had a massive case of absolutely knackered today, I don't think anyone slept properly last night, it was incredibly hot (there had been an alert n the weather app about heat causing disruption). Today, however, has been much cooler, cloudier and more breezy so very refreshing.

We spent most of the day lulling around, when Ellie went to bed, I just lulled around inside reading, she slept for three hours and we had to go get her in the end.

I shook myself out of it and we decided to go into inca to have a walk around, then go to the "nana" shop as Ellie calls it to get some dinner. We treated Ellie to some new dinosaurs which she loves and she picked out a little birthday pressie for William. And we took Ellie and the dinosaurs for a nice walk, at every water feature she wanted them to have a swim! And when we were at the park, she put the bag of dinosaurs down, stroked it very lovingly a few times, then ran off to the swings!

We had spent quite a while walking so decided to eat in the church square in inca as it looked lovely - and cheap! €4.90 for lasagne! The food was inoffensive, and the service was friendly, however, it was sooooooo slow, I think it was approximately an hour before our food came! Unfortunately, we still had to go to the nana shop on the way home but we had a lovely evening, if a little chilly and slow. It's a nice place to eat as there are no cars in the square, so Ellie could have a little run around if she wanted, although she has a habit of just standing watching right I the wrong place and there was some quite bullish 8ish year olds playing football.

Update on Charlotte, this morning they had decided it was tissue damage so they weren't going to carry out an MRI scan, just some physio and she was told at one point that she could leave today betas she's been lying down a lot there have been a couple of not concerning complications, but she'll need to stay in tonight just in case. Def home tomorrow apparently, good job, only 7 sleeps until they're due here!!

Saturday 10/06/12
Our plan was to go to Lluc monastery and then onto pollenca, but miguel was in and out through the morning so we didn't leave until 12 ish so we cut out the godliness and just went to pollenca, sat I what I believe to be the main square, had lunch and felt very posh! It was lovely, a really nice place to spend a couple if hours. I will very much miss town squares when we get home, the ease of sitting somewhere with no traffic and a choice of simple but tasty food that we all enjoy, also, people not on the lash but also, it's not out of place to see local men having a small lager at 09:30 or a coffee at 22:00 in one of these places.

Charlotte got out of hospital this morning so we skyped her to say welcome home once ellie got up from her nap at 5 (god, we're screwing with her routine! Fine for now though) Ellen came over and so we cracked open the cava and spent a bit of time chatting about her recent trip to England to surprise her mum for her birthday. We then headed into inca for a Chinese for dinner while Mark is away as he doesn't eat chinese.

We walked around the road that seemed to have all of the Chinese restaurants on and looked at the various menus, in the end, we went for the one which was mainly a huge outdoor space filled with tables and chairs and had a giant grill in the centre of the garden. We walked in, no one else was there and it felt like we had three people around us who were going to mop up every little crumb as soon as we dropped it and I was a bit concerned it wasting to get irritating! We ordered a set menu for four and gradually over the next couple of hours the place filled right up! A lot of locals seemed to be going for the grilled meat it looked fantastically cooked. They were great with Ellie, they brought her a very oriental high chair, little spoon and fork and cup. They also had little trikes for them to play on, it was a lovely night all round.

Sunday 11/06/12
We stayed at the house all day today, we had thought about going to alcudia old town but once ellie got up from her nap, we went for a swim and hung around on sun beds (Ellie lies on them and just says "sunshine") under the tree. Jim made a lovely red Thai curry and we watched the Canadian grand pix. Not the same when peppa pig is playing in the background and the commentary is in German, but we got the gist of it, Ferarri screwed up Alonso's plan and Lewis stormed it to Pole! Great!

Monday 12/06/12

We woke up thinking, we HAVE to come up with a plan soon - maybe today will be the day...!

Ellen had to work unexpectedly and we had all planned a day so Jim went over and fetched Mark and we all played some tennis and swam, Ellen came over after work.

After all activities were done, we headed into Sineu to Thomassinis to get massive salty pizzas, last time I got one with gorgonzola on, for some reason In my head I was thinking mozzarella, I didn't make that mistake again. The Americana I ordered was ok, but the pudding was amazing, pistachio cheesecake with cherries of top - yum!

As always, Ellie got back from there and ran around circles for an hour or so, not sure what happens to her there! Naturally, no plan was made!

Tuesday 13/06/12

It was a little cloudy today, so we thought we'd head to Palma in the afternoon. Once Ellie was up, we managed to get in for about 16:30, the usual carpal was full so we found another right by a little park Ellie played at for a while and we looked around yet another area of Palma we were unfamiliar with, I made a note of an amazing looking icecream stand at had ferrara Roche ice cream and all sorts of treats. We were getting a little hungry but planned to get entrecôte on the way home and eat at home so we stopped for a small snack and Ellie's dindins, when we left, I noticed the time was 18:50 already! It took us 35 mins to steam across town and get back to the car as we had shopping to do on the way home!

Jim was a hero and ran in and did the shopping, even if it was a much edited version which means another trip, and Ellie and I waited in the car whilst she had some milk and chatted away.
Week eight journal notes

Wednesday 13/06/12
Today we went back to cap Formentor beach as we enjoyed it so much last time, it was a little chillier today as it was breezy and probably twice as busy. We didn't need to put the tent up as we found a nice shady spot and we sat and had a nice little picnic, which we are getting quite good at now! Ellie played the sea for a while, commando rolled through the sand and did some digging. She was exhausted and fell asleep cuddling me as Jim went for a walk and I found my self sat uncomfortably in the sand, bolt upright enjoying my cuddle for about twenty mins but my backs paying for it now!

We got home and it was very, very cloudy, which is good as hopefully it's done and out of the way for the visit on Friday from all of my lot! We managed to get Ellie into bed for about 8:30 tonight, a bit of a result these days!

Thursday 15/06/12
Today we've enjoyed our current peace and quiet! My family are due in tomorrow, so we've dutifully got the house tidied / cleaned / beds made etc and sat by the pool and enjoyed the calm!

Ellie had a three hour sleep and was useless when she woke up, it took her ages to pull her little self together and she had the world's worst bed hair, due to these factors (and his lack of patience it has to be said) Jim went to the "'nana" on his own stocking up with supplies for the next couple of days (litres of martini for you know who) . Ellie managed to pull herself together and so we did some painting, having learned from recent painting episodes, I fashioned an apron out of a bin liner and a tablecloth out of another big liner. Her favourite style of painting is painting on her hands, doing a hand print, then making her hand go round and round - ruining the handprint! She seemed to do a lot of blocks of colour today too.

Once the martyr had got back from shopping, we went and had a dip in the pool, Ellie wore he rubber ring and tipped up when Jim was "speedboating" her, I turned around and she was feet up, one of the most harrowing couple of seconds of my life! We were right there to correct her strait away and it's no worse than some of the dunks she deals with but it was a horrible picture to see.

Jim cooked us loads of chicken legs and wings with some corn on the cob and salad - Ellie ate her chicken wing in a way that I could imagine Henry VIII eating, pretty much gnawed the bone until that's all was left, I couldn't watch! I'm sure she use have chomped on some bone! We then skyped the lovely fords which was great, Amelie is getting so big and gorgeous.

Putting here to bed was a drama as it's regularly becoming, it took two hors from the ideal time I wanted her in bed, until bed time, she's too damn cute and knows how to work us!

Friday 16/06/12
Today's the day the Taylors / Powells get here! Their plane landed at 5:20 so we went to the neighbouring beach to the airport and very quickly realised we weren't going to see them land! So after a couple of awkward minutes avoiding the odd nudist we headed to the airport to meet them! It was lovely, Ellie of course, remembered Boo, which was Boo's biggest fear so that was a relief for her! Car rented, Jim and I split teams and I went with dad to guide him back to son perotet. Charlotte, Craig and William all squashed in the back, dad and I aren't the ideal people to sit behind in a car!

Once we got home, we were swamped with treats from England, mainly to be stored in the fridge and sorted out dinner, we all ate, the kids went to bed horrendously late and a great night had by all...

Saturday 16/06/12  - William's second birthday

The wee man turned two today and to celebrate spent the whole day chasing the potty around while Ellie looked on in fear and did 5 tinkles! We sat and finally opened his presents (bit of a time lag in Taylor wake up time and Powell Ball wake up time) Charlotte had been incredibly thoughtful and bought Ellie amazing presents to open too so she didn't feel let out and they cracked on with colouring in their new books with new pens whilst cuddling their new toys. There've been a couple of moments where Ellie couldn't bear to watch William play with her pram but she built a bridge, walked over and moved on!!

Everyone's favourite Aunty Boo was on hand all day to entertain kids and adults alike and was a great sport dealing with the never ending banter from the boys.

Jim split his foot open underneath climbing through the field to get bits that had rolled off the pool side and it was quite nasty, at the same time, Charlotte was on planet tramedol (painkillers for her back) and so we decided it was best to eat at home again. Myself and my sisters headed off into Llubi with the late edition of Ellie in only a nappy who was thrown in when she got upset, and the four of us went off in search of meat. Charlotte and Rachel swear they saw a skinned cat at the Bip supermarket! We then decorated cakes for William's birthday cakes, the kids loved it.

We all had a lovely evening making the most of our Boo as she's off tomorrow... :(

Sunday 17/06/12 - father's day

Gifts were handed around to the various dads this morning and we all had a nice breakfast together, everyone had slept in pretty well too so a bit of sleep was caught up on.

Boo needed to be at the airport for 11:30 so all but Jim (who was resting his foot) came to drop her off. It was so sad watching her walk away on her own. We walked along the glass next to the departure hall watching her looking at the board and presumably deciding whether to pick up food or board the plane on time, but she never saw us.

We got into Palma and found a nice place to site outside in some shad and have a sandwich (!)  then I walked everyone around on a mini tour trying to show the nice areas / old town / ice creams stands etc. unfortunately, being Sunday, a lot of it was closed but we had a nice day, may be a bit to much for Charlotte though, looking back.

Once we got home some well deserved swims we're taken and we cooled off telling Jim stories of our exploits and lunch etc! We thought we'd head to Alcudia late afternoon for a bit of sea side then food. The electric went out at Floriditas so we had quite a wait, the chef decided to make our meal his mission in life and managed to do a bloody good job just with gas! The staff there were all a bit nervous as the electric didn't seem to be coming on in time for the Germany v Denmark match for which a lot of Germans had reserved seating to watch... Ellie and william played so nicely, I think it was the first time I've seen her really play with another child, so glad it was William, Another late night had by all in our gang!

Monday 18/06/12
Today was another pool day, it started off cloudy but was fine by 11 (Ellie didn't wake up until just before 10!)The kids ran around in just nappies (we were lucky if they wore that much )and you can see against William, Ellie is starting to get a very feint tan.

After charlotte had recovered from another trip to planet tramedol, myself, her and Craig ventured into inca to get some food for dinner, Tramedol seems to make Charlottle want to buy everything in her site!

We got back and they'd all had a lovely swim in the pool, when Craig went down, William, who has been very nervous of the pool jumped in! Brave boy...

We bathed them whilst jim and my mum, his sous chef prepped tea! Unfortunately Ellie was doing her usual racing on the terrace outside our balcony, wasn't watching where she was going and ran into the wall, she has a stonker of a bruise growing, poor little thing . Tired today so tried for an early night but it's not happening, also, planning rest of trip not happening...!

Tuesday 19/06/12
Today was mum's birthday, we celebrated by involving God himself and went to the monastery in Lluc, it was very different to how I expected it, Lluc itself seemed to be within the monastery, it was far more modern than I'd have ever thought and wasn't some beautiful building on a hill, it was more communist looking. I did see what I assume we're some of the original buildings with a galley style walkway along the first floor leading to individual rooms and mangers underneath for the livestock, these were fantastic to see.

Once we got home we were incredibly hot a bit of pool was called for, William getting braver by the day...

For dinner we took mum to the Chinese we went to with Ellen, you could see their fearful faces at the entrance, scared to go in as it looked so dodgy, but we guided them in and we sat down to a lovely meal watching England v Ukraine and for the bargain sum go €66!!! For six inc booze!! We tipped 'heavily' made a hasty retreat and decided to definitely go back! Once we got home w sat and watched thunder storms for a while, it was a nice evening.
